Welcome
Congratulations on your engagement, and welcome to the Catholic Engaged Encounter of Baton Rouge! Catholic Engaged Encounter is a two-day retreat where a reflective atmosphere is created free from the tensions, pressures and interruptions of daily life. The two-day retreat is specifically designed to give couples the time and opportunity to question, examine and deepen their relationship with each other and God. Couples have an opportunity to dialogue and discuss honestly and intensively about their prospective lives together – their strengths and weaknesses; their desires; their ambitions; their goals; their attitudes about money, sex, children, family and their role in the Church and society in a private face-to-face way. Couples are challenged to explore their relationships in a much deeper, more honest way than they have before.
Our Community
Our community currently hosts six weekends per year, and has six team couples and seven priests who volunteer their time to share the gift of marriage with engaged couples. On an encounter, a team consisting of two married couples and a priest present a series of concepts throughout the weekend. After each presentation, the engaged couples are given time to write their thoughts on questions in their workbooks and then given additional time to discuss their responses with each other – always from the viewpoint of their own relationship. Personal reflections and couple dialogue lead to an increase in communication and a better understanding of the importance of God in one’s marriage. CEE has made the necessary changes to be Covid-19 compliant with the couple only interacting with their fiancé and return to their homes at night.
